Last November, I wrote a letter expressing my concerns about Turkey. I knew the Obama administration would not take action since he was a lame duck. Turkey’s leader was busy building 147 prisons to house the 10,000 citizens he’d arrested for disagreeing with him. He has arrested over 200 journalists, as well.
This same man won a referendum recently, by stuffing the ballot box. He has done away with his country’s parliament, and decided he will only be able to serve two, five year terms as president. Democracy is dead in Turkey.
Our president called him to congratulate him on his success at the ballot box, which horrified the leaders of many other democratic nations. This only makes sense if you have two towers in Istanbul with your name on them. I guess then you’d want to make nice. Too bad for America.
