I read the letter from Brian Lewis, “Cyclists have same rights as drivers,” on Feb. 26. Mr. Lewis is correct. In addition, let’s remind cyclists that per the motor vehicle code, bicycles are considered vehicles and must stop at stop signs and red lights. Also, cyclists need to ride on the right side of the road with traffic not going against traffic.
A bicycle and a vehicle collision is never going to work out well for the person on the bicycle.
My final word of caution for drivers is please stop using the bike lane or pedestrian right lanes for traveling when you’re going to make right-hand turns. You’re not allowed to use that area until the white line becomes a hashed line. Vehicles are not allowed to cross a solid white line. The more drivers and cyclists understand the law, the safer we will be.
