After observing the Clovis Unified School District board election, I am tired of people using Doc Buchanan, posthumously, to champion their fight.
It is important for parents to understand, no matter how many times the incumbents use his name, that doesn’t mean he supports their re-election. It only means they’re reducing him to mascot for their cause.
My husband is Doc’s grandson, my boys his great-grandchildren. But I don’t claim to know where Doc would stand. If I were to use this “Doc-dropping” tactic, I’d say that Doc would be ashamed of the underhanded way that the incumbents ignored the parents’ majority vote on the school dress code this last April.
I’d say don’t re-elect Christopher Casado, Ginny Hovsepian, Scott Troescher and Brian Heryford! And most importantly, I’d make sure I said Doc’s name a dozen times while I was at it.
Never miss a local story.
Ignore people falsely shouting Doc’s name. At this point, it doesn’t matter what he thinks. What do you want for your children? This is our fight now. If anyone claims to have Doc Buchanan on their side, ignore it. Get the facts. Decide for yourself. Doc won’t do it for you.
