This is in response to the editorial, “Vote no on half-baked Proposition 64,” by the Bee Editorial board.
On Nov. 8, Californians should vote “yes” on Prop. 64. During recent times, Californians have led on critical issues such as green energy, climate change, and marijuana should be no different.
The argument that there has not been sufficient research conducted is subjective at best. Over the last decade, 10,000-plus pieces have been published with reference to cannabinoids. The studies have proven marijuana is relatively safe for recreational use and virtually non-toxic to our cells and our vital organs, especially, in comparison to the nationwide glorified substance of choice, alcohol.
While studies might show that marijuana harms developing brains, brain development is also hindered by excessive stress, caffeine, and of course, alcohol. With just about any prescription drug or potentially harmful substance, proper use and control should always be followed.
The board should not advocate for recreational prohibition on one hand, while getting buzzed off of Long Island ice teas on the other.
