Lee Brand, candidate for mayor of Fresno, was asked to consider appealing a recent decision by the city of Fresno’s Planning Commission, which adversely affected a neighborhood where my husband and I live.
Multiple letters were written to Fresno City Councilman Brand requesting the appeal, including an appeal request signed by 23 adjacent homeowners. The only response received was a phone call from his secretary to one homeowner.
He never responded to any of the issues set out in the letters addressed to him, nor did he pick up the phone to call himself. He simply had his secretary call to tell a single homeowner that there would be no appeal of the commission’s decision.
This surely casts a light on how he would serve the city if he was elected mayor. My husband and I considered voting for Mr. Brand, but not after this incident, because if this is how he “serves” his district, how can he “serve” Fresno?
We relied on him to give serious consideration to a serious issue. It was bad enough that he was not willing to appeal, but to cavalierly disregard the issues raised by delegating a response to his staff, was a deal breaker for our votes.
