Drought-stricken grazing parcels in Fresno County to get tax break

Fresno County Assessor-Recorder Paul Dictos has reduced the assessments on grazing parcels where the drought has significantly lowered animal-carrying capacity.

Irrigation is not generally used for grazing parcels, where native grasses and other forage are not growing because of the drought.

Assessments are expected to be lowered by an average of 50% for 2014-15 in recognition of the parcels' decline in value.

The declines will provide some tax relief to the owners of the affected grazing parcels, Dictos said.
