Tulare County declares drought emergency

The Tulare County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously declared a local emergency due to drought.

The Tulare County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously declared a local emergency due to drought.

Supervisors also called on legislators to place a water bond on the ballot, launched a water advocacy committee, and urged local residents to conserve water.

The local emergency would allow the county to recover drought response costs and make the county eligible for other drought assistance, board Chairman Phil Cox said.

"This is a very serious issue that can potentially destroy our local economy," he said.
