Watch as a San Joaquin Valley kit fox takes some tentative steps as it is released back onto the California State University, Bakersfield campus after being treated for sarcoptic mange. The Bakersfield campus is home to a wild population of kit foxes suffering from sarcoptic mange, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The sarcoptic mange is caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei mite and is contagious, according to the website PetMD.
