Yosemite is an important economic engine to nearby communities in its "gateway" region within 60 miles of the park. The National Park Service estimates Yosemite generated about $380 million in direct visitor spending at businesses inside and outside the park in 2012, the most recent year for which figures were available (in June 2014).
