State Sen. Ricardo Lara, D-Bell Gardens, is scheduled to make a short stop in southwest Fresno on Monday for a Medi-Cal enrollment event for undocumented immigrant children.
Under Senate Bill 4, authored by Lara, undocumented children can be enrolled in full-scope Medi-Cal, the state-federal insurance for low-income individuals and families. Before the legislation, which Gov. Jerry Brown signed in October, undocumented children had only limited Medi-Cal coverage.
The Fresno Medi-Cal enrollment event, from 3 to 5 p.m. will be at Clinica Sierra Vista’s dental clinic, 2756 S. Elm Ave.
Families should bring photo identification for the person applying for Medi-Cal. Other documents needed for enrollment include:
▪ a birth certificate and/or U.S. residency card, for each person who has one;
▪ Social Security card for each person who has one;
▪ a bill or statement showing current address;
▪ proof of income in last 30 days for anyone in the home (check stub, letter from employer, income tax statement, benefits letter).
