Rep. David Valadao, R-Hanford, spent Christmas Day with U.S. troops serving in Baghdad.
“While most Americans were able to spend today with their family and loved ones, many members of our military did not have the same opportunity,” Valadao said in a statement released by his office. “Spending Christmas with the brave men and women of our Armed Forces was truly the most humbling experience and I cannot begin to express how grateful I am for their service to our nation.”
Valadao went to Kuwait as part of a Congressional delegation organized by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Defense. He attended several briefings and received updates on Defense and State Department operations in the Middle East.
It wasn’t clear whether Valadao was able to spend time with anyone from the central San Joaquin Valley, but his office said many of the troops he met are California natives.
Valadao said, “While spending the holiday in the Middle East with our troops was an unforgettable experience, I hope when I see them next, it is here at home.”
