Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin made a quick run to Sacramento Monday to be a part of history — watching Gov. Jerry Brown being inaugurated to an unprecedented fourth term in office.
Swearengin, a Republican, said the Democratic governor’s office reached out last week to mayors of the ten biggest cities in California, seeing who might be able to attend the ceremony.
“I was very honored to be invited,” Swearengin said.
Also on hand was Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, a Democrat, but Swearengin said she didn’t see any of her other fellow big-city mayors.
Swearengin said she congratulated Brown on his reelection, and figues she’s “pretty front and center in Brown’s mind” this week. After all, the two will meet again Tuesday in Fresno, where both will attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the state’s high-speed rail project.
