Fresno County’s remaining ballots from the Nov. 4 election were counted Friday, pushing vote totals up a bit but not changing the outcomes of any races.
The results still have to be certified, which county clerk Brandi Orth hopes will be done by Thanksgiving.
The final tally in the 16th Congressional District, one of the most anticipated area races, put Fresno Democrat Jim Costa ahead by 1,327 votes over Republican Johnny Tacherra, an increase of only seven votes since numbers were last updated on Monday.
Costa won overall by 50.7% and Tacherra by 49.2% The district covers parts of Fresno and Madera counties and all of Merced County.
In the race for Fresno City Council District 1, Esmeralda Soria increased her lead by 10 votes to 526 over Cary Catalano. Soria won 52.3% of the votes and Catalano 47.2%. They were the top-two finishers in the June primary and thus advanced to the November runoff.
Lisa Gamoian finished well ahead of Rachel Hill in the race for the open judge’s seat in Fresno County Superior Court. In the latest count, Gamoian gained 177 more votes. Overall, Gamoian led by 5,480. She garnered 51.6% of the votes to Hill’s 47.9%.
