In Fresno, the occasional cool breeze is no surprise in September. Neither is a little sprinkle. For me, the surprise is how good the wet, breezy weather felt on Sunday. Fresno has had nine days above 100 degrees this month.
This September was on a pace to be the warmest on record, but the last several days have changed all that.
The clouds, rain and high temperature of 78 on Sunday felt like an unofficial end to a torrid late spring and summer that fiinished with 50 triple-digit days for Fresno. September can sometimes work out that way.
Sunday was the wettest September day Fresno has seen since 2000. The National Weather Service reported .18 of an inch. On Sept. 1, 2000, Fresno had .32 of an inch, Weather Service records showed.
Never miss a local story.
At the same time, even though the cool-down probably dropped the month down several notches on the list of the warmest Septembers, it still will probably finish in the top 10 of the warmest for the month.
By the way, Fresno had its warmest September on record in 2012. And 2009 was the fifth warmest.
