The city of Palmdale filed a motion in federal court Tuesday to block an ongoing conceptual study of the Grapevine as a possible bullet train route.
The motion comes two weeks after the city sued to stop the same $700,000 study, saying the California High-Speed Rail Authority is prohibited from using federal grants or state bond money to revisit a 2005 decision to build an alignment through Palmdale.
"Again we're asking why are we wasting taxpayer money to study a route that has already been shown to be inferior on so many levels?" Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford said in a news release.
City officials have noted that a segment through Palmdale would provide greater connectivity to other mass transit systems, and that businesses in the area have already invested money in anticipation of a route through the Antelope Valley.
