Valley community college commencement ceremonies start this week with Porterville College, with the rest of the ceremonies happening next week.
Porterville College commencement starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the college’s gymnasium.
Two commencement ceremonies are Thursday, May 19: West Hills College Lemoore’s commencement ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Golden Eagle Arena on campus, and College of the Sequoias begins at 7 p.m. at Mineral King Bowl, northeast corner of Mineral King Avenue and Giddings Street on the Redwood High School campus.
Three State Center Community College District commencement ceremonies are set for Friday, May 20. Reedley College’s commencement ceremony is set for 6 p.m. on the college’s south lawn. Fresno City College’s graduation ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. at Selland Arena in downtown Fresno. Clovis Community College’s inaugural graduation ceremony takes place at 6:30 p.m. at Clovis Hills Community Church, 10590 N. Willow Ave.
At Reedley, more than 900 students will receive associate of arts and science degrees, as well as certificates of completion and achievement from the college’s career technical programs, spokesman George Villagrana said. Susan Chapman has been selected as distinguished alumnus for the ceremony. She is the vice president of patient care services at the Adventist Medical Center in Reedley.
West Hills College Coalinga is also holding its graduation ceremony May 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the college’s gymnasium. Commencement speakers include Tracey Jaurena, named 2016 alumnus of the year, spokeswoman Amber Myrick said. Jaurena is a long-time employee of the college and an accomplished athletic trainer and instructor. Clarissa Shieh-mei Caposino will serve as the student speaker. She is the president of the college’s student government, a student athlete and member of various campus organizations including the Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
