More than a dozen students from the central San Joaquin Valley were selected Tuesday as 2015 Dell Scholars.
Dell Scholars receive $20,000, a laptop and textbook credits toward the college of their choosing. The scholarships recognize students who have overcome major obstacles to reach their goal of attending a four-year university.
The winners are: Evelyn Salazar, Aidee Esquivel and Rodrigo Renteria Adame of Parlier High School; Nancy Alcaraz of Orosi High School; Steve Silva and Gilberto “Gil” Martinez of Riverdale High School; Carlos Villalobos, Marilyn “Jayline” Pacheco, Agustine Mijangos and Jessica Elorza of Sunnyside High School; Martina Carranza, Rosanai “Anai” Paniagua and Diana Moron Guzman of Porterville High School; Patricia “Patty” Barrios of Farmersville High School; and Simran Dhillon of Tulare Union High School.
The four winners from Sunnyside High School bring the school’s total number of Dell Scholars to 41, the most of any high school in the country.
