Fresno Unified officials announced plans on Friday to extend the class day at an additional 20 elementary schools starting in the fall. Students at each school will get 30 extra minutes of instruction time each day.
The schools are: Addams, Anthony, Birney, Calwa, Columbia, Del Mar, Heaton, Hidalgo, Homan, Jackson, King, Lane, Mayfair, Muir, Pyle, Rowell, Slater, Vang Pao, Williams and Winchell.
The district lengthened the class day by 30 minutes at 10 elementary schools this school year. The plan is part of a years-long strategy to give the district’s youngest students more instruction time. Teachers are paid for the extra time they work.
Officials say an additional 10 schools will tack on time during the 2016-17 school year.
