Nineteen Valley schools earned state recognition for academic achievement by schools that receive federal funding to assist populations at or near the poverty level.
There were 209 schools honored statewide, 16 from Fresno County, two from Tulare County and one from Kings County.
The Fresno County schools were: Jefferson, Miramonte, Clovis, Reagan and Sierra Vista elementaries in Clovis Unified; Lone Star, John S. Wash, Del Rey, Ronald W. Reagan and Jefferson elementaries in Sanger Unified; Manchester GATE, Kratt Elementary, Baird Middle and Design Science Early College High School in Fresno Unified; Indianola Elementary in Selma Unified and Liberty Intermediate in Kerman Unified.
The Tulare County schools were: William R. Buckley Elementary in Burton Elementary School District and Sundale Elementary in the Sundale Union district.
In Kings County, Monroe Elementary in the Hanford Elementary school district was named.
