Vernave Medrano of Roosevelt High School won the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship's Central Valley Regional Business Plan Competition on Thursday.
The entrepreneurship program is coordinated through Fresno State's Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Medrano's business plan for Vernave's Pottery, a custom pottery company, won out over four other high school students' plans.
Medrano won $500 and will advance to the national competition in New York in October.
