An estimated 50 fighting roosters were destroyed and 100 other birds were seized after a property was raided Aug. 2, the Central California Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals reported this week.
The raid happened on property near the intersection of Manning and Zumwalt avenues just outside Reedley.
Spokesman Walter Salvari said evidence taken at the property included fighting gaffs and medicine used to treat the roosters injured in the fighting. There was no information about arrests during the operation. Anyone with information about illegal rooster fighting is asked to call 877-TIP-HSUS. Rewards are available for tips leading to the conviction of someone arranging animal fights, Salvari said.
