An armed bandit escaped with about $50 in cash after robbing a Payless shoe store at First Street and Shields Avenue Tuesday morning, police reported.
The incident was reported just after 10 a.m. A spokesman said the suspect was about 5-feet, 7-inches tall and 240 pounds and dressed in khaki-colored medical scrubs with numerous tattoos on his arms. A police spokesman said the suspect went into the store and pretended to be shopping. A woman who may have been acting in concert with the suspect then entered the store and began talking to the clerk. The suspect then pulled out the gun and demanded cash before fleeing south on First. The woman left a few minutes later.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP.
