A big, black, speeding Mercedes Benz caught Fresno police officers’ attention early Saturday morning, leading to the arrest of four men.
Sgt. Chris Desmond described what happened:
Just before 1 a.m., officers from the Southwest Violent Crime Impact Team saw the Mercedes speeding in the area of G Street and Florence Avenue, just east of the Highways 99/41 interchange.
The officers used lights and sirens to attempt a traffic stop, but the Mercedes pulled away, running stop signs and crossing over lane dividers on a westbound race to the area of Church and Elm avenues in southwest Fresno, where officers lost sight of the car.
The Fresno police helicopter picked up the chase, and airborne officers saw the Mercedes travel five more blocks to the Bigby Villa Apartments. Three men jumped out and tried to hide.
Two were found hiding in bushes near the car. The third was seen running into an apartment. Officers banged on the door but no one answered, so they forced their way in and arrested the man who was trying to hide and a man who was inside.
Officers weren’t able to identify the driver, but they did find a stolen handgun.
Desmond said Rodney Green was arrested on multiple firearms charges. Kendrick McDaniels, Alex Oliver and Dion Green were all arrested and booked for a variety of charges.
Jail records show that Rodney Green, 19, was booked on a charge of being a felon in possession of a gun and other counts, with bail totaling $116,000. McDaniels, 25, was being held on a probation violation. Oliver, 21, was cited and released. There was no record for Dion Green.
