A man is in critical condition after a shooting Saturday in Madera County, authorities reported.
The victim was wounded near Avenue 12 and Road 28 1/4 just before midnight, according to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office. Lt. Bill Ward said the incident was initially reported to be a car crash, but when the California Highway Patrol arrived, officers discovered a man with a gunshot wound.
Sheriff’s detectives determined three men were in the car on Avenue 12 when an argument erupted and the rear passenger shot the victim. The driver and the shooter then began to struggle and the car hit a tree. The driver and the shooter ran from the scene.
Detectives located the driver, but the gunman remains at large.
