Fresno police arrested a man who allegedly tried to rob a store clerk near Fresno State Monday, police said.
Police said they identified Robert Fonseca as the suspect, and on Wednesday morning authorities found him hiding in a pile of laundry at a home in the 4200 block of E. Dayton Avenue in east-central Fresno. They said they also found property taken during the robbery and other evidence.
The robber, armed with a handgun, walked into the Bulldog Fan Zone, formerly Sequoia Textbooks, on Shaw Avenue around 11:30 a.m. and demanded cash. He was turned away by the store clerk, police said. The thief opted instead shove his gun back into his own backpack, and run out of the store – swiping a backpack and a baseball cap on his way out.
