Tulare County Sheriff’s detectives arrested a fugitive wanted for a 2014 homicide Tuesday at the San Ysidro international border crossing with Mexico after a month-long phone call operation with the fugitive.
Edgar Picazo, 19, was wanted for homicide in Orosi in 2014 and was on the Sheriff’s Top 10 Most Wanted Criminals in Hiding.
Picazo was wanted for a home invasion on the 42400 block of Road 140 on May 27, 2014 that ended with one suspect killed and others wounded. A suspect in the home invasion, Victor Hugo Hernandez DeHaro, 21, was found dead lying on the driveway on May 27.
Although DeHaro was shot by one of the victims, Picazo is charged with his murder because DeHaro was killed during the commission of a felony, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office said. Picazo had been on the run ever since.
Tulare County Sheriff’s detectives worked with a Sheriff’s County Apprehension Team Tracking Criminals in Hiding and with the Border Patrol and the Department of Homeland Security.
Picazo will be tried as an adult.
