Two people were arrested Wednesday for allegedly running an illegal gambling operation out of an apartment unit at the Summerset Village Apartments in central Fresno.
Fresno County sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said Thanhack Linthong, 46, of Fresno, and Pa Vang, 45, of Fresno, were running four video slot machines and several computers set up for gambling inside a bedroom. Members of the Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium pulled an undisclosed amount of cash from the machines, suggesting they had been used recently.
Both suspects were charged with illegally operating gambling machines, a misdemeanor. Linthong, whom authorities said was a gang member, was also charged with being a felon in possession of ammunition. Vang faces an additional felony charge for committing a crime while being out on bail.
The suspects were arrested in August for allegedly running a similar casino at a home in the 2300 block of East Thomas Avenue, Botti said.
The gambling apparently went on during an extensive renovation project at Summerset, which was slapped with hundreds of city code violations after a major gas outage in November.
Anyone with additional information on the case is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 559-600-3111 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-STOP.
