Fresno police officers conducting a red light violation traffic stop in southwest Fresno got more than they expected Wednesday night.
When the driver of the suspected vehicle pulled over near Church and Elm avenues, officers smelled marijuana from the vehicle and ordered the two suspects out of the car.
One of the suspects, a 16-year-old boy, was attempting to hide something in his sweatpants. When officers searched him, they found a Cobray 9mm handgun that had been fitted with an unloaded 30-round magazine. Officers believe the firearm was capable of firing fully automatic.
The juvenile was booked into Fresno County Juvenile Hall on multiple felony weapons violations.
