An Oakhurst woman was charged with a felony driving under the influence for allegedly swerving across lanes on Highway 41 and causing a major injury accident.
Sherry Lynn Abraugh-Getchell, 40, allegedly crossed a double-yellow line while driving southbound and swerved into the northbound lane on Highway 41, north of Road 425B, around 7 a.m. on Sept. 28. She collided with a car driven by Debra Essary of Coarsegold. Essary sustained serious injuries.
Essary was airlifted to Fresno Community Regional Medical Center with multiple fractured bones, while Abraugh-Getchell was taken to the same location by ambulance with a broken arm and other injuries.
In total, Abraugh-Getchell was charged with two felony counts of driving with a blood-alcohol level over the .08 legal limit and special allegations for causing bodily injuries.
Madera County District Attorney David A. Linn said, “The District Attorney’s Office is committed to make the county’s streets and highways safer. We will vigorously prosecute drunk drivers with particular emphasis on our major thoroughfares such as Highway 41, Highway 99 and Highway 145.”
An arraignment will be held at the Madera Superior Court branch in Bass Lake.
