A Squaw Valley man has been arrested Monday on suspicion of setting 27 fires on forest land in Fresno County over three years, including one that burned more than 60 acres, Cal Fire said.
Michael Wayne Hamilton Sr., 68, was taken into custody Monday at George Smith Road and Highway 180 in Squaw Valley. He was arrested by Cal Fire law enforcement officers with assistance of the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office.
Hamilton was booked into the Fresno County Jail around 9:20 p.m. and charged with 27 counts of arson to forest lands and use of an incendiary device.
The fires, set in 2012, 2014 and 2015, were all located in Fresno County. Twelve of the fires happened during a spree between May 4 and 11 of this year.
