Visalia police served an arrest warrant to a man Monday morning after an armed standoff.
Robert Freitas Silvera, 27, was booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-trial Facility on the warrant charge and for resisting arrest.
Police responded to a home in the 1100 block of North Conyer Street shortly before 8:30 a.m. to serve the arrest warrant. Silvera was outside as the officers approached and ignored orders to stop as he ran inside.
Silvera locked the front door and refused repeated orders to surrender, police said. Some time later, he opened the door with a knife at his throat, threatening to harm himself.

Visalia Police Department crisis negotiation team members were brought in to talk to Silvera. After about 15 minutes, he dropped the knife and was taken into custody.
