Michael Huckaby of Visalia was sentenced to five years probation Wednesday in the death of his girlfriend Jaime Atkerson.
Atkerson was found dead on the bathroom floor on Jan. 21, 2011. Huckaby told police he found her unresponsive in the bathtub and had removed her before police arrived.
More than two years later, he was arrested for murder. Last month, he pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter.
Additional information in the case supported a voluntary manslaughter charge, Assistant District Attorney Anthony Fultz said.
Judge Joseph Kalashian also sentenced Huckaby, 66, to a suspended six-year prison sentence, a one-year batterer’s program, ordered him to stay away from the victim’s family, and credited him for time served in jail.
