Clovis police arrested a 48-year-old man Friday evening who allegedly threatened to kill family members and shoot at police during a 1 1/2-hour standoff between the man and law enforcement.
Officers responded to disturbance calls at a home on the 900 block of Harvard Avenue about 6 p.m. When police arrived, they saw a man standing in front of the house holding a metal rod in his hand.
The man, Ernest Martinez Jr., of Clovis, went back inside and trashed the house, yelling at police from inside he was going to burn the house down and shoot at the officers outside. Eventually, police were able to arrest Martinez without incident and rescue an elderly man and woman who were inside the home.
Martinez was booked into Fresno County Jail for elder abuse, threatening officers and vandalism.
