A 53-year-old man was in extremely critical condition Friday afternoon after he was shot multiple times in the chest at an apartment complex near Dakota and Hughes avenues.
The shooting took place about 9:46 a.m. at the Garland Garden apartments in the 3700 block of North Pleasant Avenue. Lt. Joe Gomez said two men whose ages were estimated to be between 18 and 25 are believed to be responsible.
A witness at the complex, who asked not to be identified, said she saw the two men arguing with the victim and that they put up their hands as if to fight. Then, she said, she heard five rapid gunshots and saw the shooter and his companion run south out of the complex.
Police arrived within minutes and combed the area by car and with a helicopter. Homicide detectives are now on scene.
