A teenager was shot in the leg Monday evening and police said they aren’t able to determine the circumstances of the shooting.
Police received calls of a possible shooting at West Griffith Way and North Crystal Avenue around 9:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a 17-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his leg, Lt. Steve Card said.
The victim’s wound was not life-threatening and he was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The victim told officers he was in the front of his house when he was shot by an unknown suspect. He was unable to describe the suspect to officers, Card said.
Never miss a local story.
“We are in the early stages of the investigation,” said Card, adding that police have not been able to verify information given by the victim.
Card said those who called to report the shooting were anonymous and little information was given before they hung up. However, he said a caller from inside the victim’s home called to report the shooting.
Possibilities of a suspected shooter are being investigated, as well as the possibility of an accidental shooting.
“We haven’t verified that there is a shooter,” Card said.
