The suspect in an unusual bank robbery in Tulare played arena football and grew up in the city.
Nichiren Flowers, 31, a former Tulare High standout who played for the University of Nevada, was arrested Monday in Tulare.
Police said the suspect didn’t ask for cash but passed a note to a teller demanding that money be transferred into an account.
The incident happened about 2:50 p.m. Monday at the Wells Fargo Bank on East Tulare Avenue.

Flowers was on the roster of arena football teams in 2007, 2010-11 and 2014, according to arenafootball.com. He was a receiver. In 2010, he scored 17 touchdowns for the Chicago Rush.
Information by a bank employee helped police arrest Flowers without incident. He was booked into a Tulare County jail and is being held on $100,000 bail.
