Clovis police arrested a Clovis East High School campus security guard and assistant freshman baseball coach for allegedly having sex with a student younger than 16.
School officials said Tuesday that Fernando Garcia, 24, has resigned from Clovis Unified School District. He was arrested Tuesday morning at Ashlan and Armstrong avenues while on his way to work. He was jailed on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, oral copulation with a person under 18 and lewd acts with a juvenile.
Clovis Unified officials alerted Clovis police Monday afternoon when they became aware of a possible relationship between Garcia and a female student, who was not named. Investigators also seized evidence from Garcia’s home on the 5500 block of East Pontiac Way in east-central Fresno.
Janet Stoll-Lee, spokeswoman for the Clovis Police Department, said Clovis Unified is cooperating fully with the investigation. Stoll-Lee said the alleged sexual interactions are not believed to have taken place on campus.
