A Hanford man was arrested Friday after allegedly attempting to kidnap a 12-year-old girl on her way to school near the 1000 block of Rodgers Road in Hanford, the Hanford Police Department said.
Alan Grandmont, 29, was booked into the Kings County Jail on suspicion of attempted kidnapping, attempted sexual assault, and witness intimidation.
The girl told officers that a heavyset white man shouted that she was “pretty” and “beautiful” as she walked south on Rodgers Road. The girl crossed the street to avoid the man, but he grabbed her by the arm when she stopped to tie her shoe. The man allegedly told the girl repeatedly that she was pretty as he forced her to hug him. The girl managed to get free of the man’s grasp, but he threatened to hurt her family if she told anyone about him, police said. The girl ran to school and informed officials of the incident. Similar cases were reported by two additional preteen girls a short time later, police said.
Officers arrested Grandmont at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Rodgers Road after noticing that he fit the description of the suspect. Grandmont’s statements allegedly put him in front of the complex at the time of the attempted kidnapping, police said. The victim positively identified Grandmont as the suspect.
