One person was shot Saturday night while playing cards on the grounds of John J. Doyle Elementary School in Porterville, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies from the Porterville substation were dispatched to Sierra View District Hospital about 9:30 p.m. when a gunshot victim showed up there seeking treatment.
According to deputies, the victim was playing cards with friends at the school, at 1045 E. Orange Ave., about 7:30 p.m. when they were approached by two unknown suspects, who fired a gun twice, striking the victim in the torso. The shooters fled and the victim was taken to the hospital.
There was no immediate information on the condition of the victim, whose identity was withheld.
