Mariposa County Sheriff’s deputies investigating a stabbing at a Merced River campground wound up arresting a wounded man on domestic violence charges Wednesday.
A spokeswoman said deputies who arrived at the scene were told by the man, Bryan Absher, of Modesto, that he stabbed himself while slipping on a rock and falling on a knife. The deputies then encountered a woman who said she stabbed Absher in self-defense after she had been struck multiple times with a stick in front of the couple’s two children. Deputies documented numerous injuries to the woman’s body and one injury to a child.
Absher was taken to a hospital for treatment and then booked into the Mariposa County Jail. In addition to the felony domestic violence charges, he faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse, driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.
