Police arrested a convicted felon early Tuesday morning after detectives linked him to two gang-related shootings in southwest Fresno that happened hours before.
Fresno police said the two shootings happened within an hour of each other. The first shooting targeted a home and a business on the 2400 block of East White Avenue and struck the buildings more than 40 times. The second shooting, which occurred about 10:15 p.m. Monday, struck a home on the 1500 block of East Vassar Avenue 14 times and injured a 33-year-old man with a graze wound.
Street Violence Section detectives searched a home on the 2400 block of East White Avenue about three hours after the shootings. The suspect ran to the backyard when detectives arrived, tossed a purse that contained three loaded guns, ran back inside and changed into a 49ers jersey to try and change his appearance, police said.
Detectives found the purse nearby and arrested Jason Cole, 31, a West Fresno gang member. Cole was booked into Fresno County Jail on multiple weapons charges. Two of the three guns used in the East Vassar Avenue shooting were recovered, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
