A juvenile boy was shot to death in Avenal in the city’s first gang-related homicide in more than two years, police said Wednesday.
The name and age of the male juvenile has not been released by authorities.
About 8:06 p.m. Tuesday, officers heard gunshots coming from the northwest part of the city and went to investigate. While the officers were on their way, dispatchers received several calls of shots fired in the 300 block of Mono Street.
Initial reports were that a home had been hit, but officers found the juvenile on the front porch with several gunshot wounds.
The officers attempted first aid. An ambulance crew pronounced him dead at the scene.
The shooter may have fled north on Mono Lane, police said.
Avenal police, Kings County District Attorney’s Office investigators and the Kings County Gang Task Force worked through the night on the case and are still investigating.
