A man and a woman allegedly robbed a man and held him hostage after he agreed to give the woman a ride Sunday night in Fresno, the Fresno Police Department said.
The 26-year-old victim agreed to drive Sarah Arellano, 19, to her home and was directed to the 3700 block of North Feland Avenue, police said. The victim and Arellano got out of the the victim’s Honda when Arturo Acosta, 23, allegedly struck the victim several times on the head, dragged him into an abandoned house, and tied him to a chair. Arellano and Acosta allegedly assaulted the victim as they took his money, car keys, cell phone battery, and shoes. The suspects then fled in the victim’s Honda.
The victim managed to free himself a short time later and contacted police. His Honda was located early Monday morning near the Welcome Inn motel at 777 N. Parkway Drive. The victim identified the vehicle’s occupants as Arturo Acosta and Sarah Arellano, police said.
Acosta and Arellano were arrested on suspicion of robbery, carjacking, kidnapping, intimidating a witness, and conspiracy.
