Two Visalia residents were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in Visalia between Friday night and early Saturday.
Visalia police arrested Chad Newman, 22, and Sharon Young, 44, at a DUI checkpoint in the area of Dinuba Boulevard and Ferguson Street.
Police checked 238 vehicles. Along with the arrests, police said nine motorists were cited for unlicensed driving, three were cited for driving on a suspended license, and 20 were cited for a variety of other driving offenses. Three vehicles were towed during the overnight operation.
Visalia police will be conducting more operations aimed at preventing DUI driving. Funding for the program comes from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
