Visalia police arrested a man Monday evening on suspicion of stomping a dog to death and tossing its body onto the street in front of his home.
Officers arrived at a home on the 1500 block of North Turner Street about 5:30 p.m. after receiving calls of gunshots. When police arrived, Robert Mesa, 35, ran inside his home.
Police arrested Mesa, a felon, after they found a dog dead on the street, as well as a loaded 12-gauge shotgun inside his home. Witnesses said Mesa stomped and kicked the small dog before throwing it onto the street.
Mesa was booked into the Tulare County pretrial facility on suspicion of animal cruelty, gun possession and terrorist threats.
