A gang member and his girlfriend have been charged with robbing a Fresno liquor store and are suspects in half a dozen commercial robberies in the city from August to December, said Fresno police Lt. Mark Salazar.
The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office recently filed the criminal charges against Khalid Javed, 36, and Melinda Alvarez, 38, both of Fresno, after police arrested them on Dec. 30 at their home on the 1000 block of North Roosevelt Avenue in central Fresno, Salazar said Friday.
Salazar said the pair were arrested on suspicion of robbing Dan’s Liquor, located at Marks and Ashlan avenues in central Fresno, on Dec. 2.
Javed remains behind bars in the Fresno County Jail with bail set at $245,000, Salazar said. Alvarez posted bail and is no longer in custody.
Robbery detectives are continuing to investigate the other robberies. Anyone with information is asked to call Fresno police detective Dan Messick at (559) 621-2423.
So far this year, there has only been one commercial robbery in Fresno, compared to six during the first part of 2014, Salazar said. In 2014, he said, there was a 10% reduction in commercial robberies compared to the prior year.
