A Fresno County Sheriff’s Office employee was arrested Thursday on charges that she stole $500 from the Fresno County Jail, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office said.
Public information officer Tony Botti said employees learned of the missing money when counting the daily receipts on Dec. 2. The money was discovered missing from one of the jail’s cash registers.
An investigation led deputies to Ana Montes, an office assistant in the jail. Botti said that Montes admitted to deputies that she took the money and subsequently submitted her resignation.
The sheriff’s office will pursue charges and has turned the case over to the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office.
