A Washington Unified School District teacher was arrested Wednesday night in connection with lewd acts with students, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Victor Osvaldo Gomez, 39, posted a $180,000 bond and faces a Jan. 21 court date, sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said.
Gomez was working as a teacher at American Union Elementary School near Easton when an investigation began in April 2014. School officials received reports that Gomez had touched female students, Botti said. The Sheriff’s Office said six students were involved and that the incidents occurred during school hours and during an after-school program.
Gomez was arrested at his home in the 1900 block of South Fifth Street.
Gomez has been placed on administrative leave, district Superintendent John Pestorich said in a statement.
“The district takes the allegations against Mr. Gomez very seriously and will work with law enforcement and the District Attorney’s Office,” he said.
Pestorich said school employees receive training about how to interact appropriately with students. He declined to provide additional information about how long Gomez was employed at American Union.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (559) 600-3111.
