Visalia police shot and killed a man in an exchange of gunfire during a chase Tuesday afternoon, Chief Jason Salazar said.
Officers involved in the foot chase were not injured, department spokesman Dustin Thompson said.
The man, who died at Kaweah Delta Hospital, was identified as Franklin Donald Oden, 39, of Visalia.
Oden was with another person when police pulled them over near the 1300 block of West Howard Avenue around 1:30 p.m., Thompson said. Oden bolted out of the driver’s seat and began running. Officers gave chase.
Never miss a local story.
Officers saw a gun in Oden’s hand and he turned around and shot at the officers, Thompson said. One officer shot back, hitting Oden.
