California Highway Patrol officers rescued a man from an irrigation canal after a high-speed pursuit through Fresno County, a spokesman reported.
“Thank you for saving my life,” Vincent Guy Ramirez, 20, reportedly told the officers after the Friday night chase.
Sgt. Johnny Fisher said Ramirez , driving a BMW, flew by a patrol car on Highway 99 at Manning Avenue just before 11 p.m. The officer turned on his emergency lights and began to pursue the BMW at speeds up to 110 mph.
At one point, Ramirez reportedly sped directly at the officer after becoming trapped in a dead-end.
Officers ended the vehicle pursuit by putting down a spike strip at Jensen and Clovis avenues, and Ramirez and others inside the BMW ran. Ramirez jumped into the canal near Church Avenue.
Officers teamed up to pull Ramirez from the chilly water and received the thanks after Ramirez was booked for felony evading, assault with a deadly weapon, driving under the influence and other charges.
